What is the "Home Visit Program for International Students"?


Now accepting applications for the 2011 program!  Application period is closed.

In this program, we will introduce you to a Japanese family who is interested in spending time with an international student. Activities with the family vary from home visits to enjoying a meal and conversation, to any other types of activities you and your family plan. Through this program, you will be given the opportunity to develop friendships and deepen your understanding of Japan.

Eligibility Must be an international student currently enrolled in a college, junior college, or language school in the Fukuoka metropolitan area.
Number of applicants Up to 60
* Based on individual circumstances, we may not be able to introduce a host family to some applicants
Program period In principle, from November to March
Application Period Application for the 2011 program is closed.

History of Home Visit Program

Since its inception in 1989 (the first year of Heisei), this program has established over 900 host family relations between Japanese families living in Fukuoka and international students from over 30 countries.

  • Nationality: (11 countries and regions: 25 people total)
    11 Chinese, 5 Korean, 1 Taiwanese, 1 Vietnamese, 1 Cambodian, 1 Sri Lankan, 1 Indian, 1 Nepali, 1 Bangladeshi, 1 Malaysian, 1 Laotian
  • Gender: (10 Males, 15 Females)
  • Age: (2 teenagers, 18 people in their 20's and 5 people in their 30's)

    Kyushu University, Japan University of Economics, Fukuoka University of Education, Nishi-Nippon Junior College, Fukuoka International University, Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University, Fukuoka Foreign Language College, Kyushu Foreign Language Academy, Kyushu Eisu Gakkan International Language Academy, Asia Japanese Academy, Fukuoka International Academy

Examples of Exchange Activities

  • We went out together and participated in various events (e.g. driving, shopping, hot springs, sports games, traditional festivals, New Year's event, rice cake pounding festival, shrine visits, fishing experience, home parties and so forth).
  • We cooked and introduced our native cuisines to each other.
  • We celebrated New Year's Eve together.
  • We introduced our individual friends to each other.
  • We introduced our friends to our student and they introduced their friends to us, and together we all had a cultural exchange.
