Medical Institutions in Japan

Medical institutions in Japan tend to be closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, as well as for an hour or two in the afternoons on weekdays. You should confirm the amount of time required for reception as well as examination. Barring extraordinary circumstances for which special treatments are required, it is not necessary to make a reservation in advance. (Check-ups at a dental clinic typically require reservations, however). Present your insurance card at the reception desk, and remain in the waiting room. After your examination is complete, return to the waiting room and pay the consultation fee for that day’s appointment. Your insurance card will be returned to you at that time. Please note that most hospitals do not have dispensaries or pharmacies inside them. When you pay your consultation fee, you will be given a prescription to take to a pharmacy after the visit.
