Rainbow Club

How do I become a Rainbow Club Member?

Bring a valid picture ID issued by public agencies, such as a driver’s license, passport or alien registration card, and fill out the Membership Registration Form at information desk at Rainbow Plaza. Your membership card will be issued on the spot.

The membership card is valid for 2 years, and you can renew it one month prior to expiration. While the registration and renewal fees are free, you will be charged a reissuing fee of 300 yen if you lose the card before the expiration date.

What services are available to a member?

Once you become a member, you will be able to 1) borrow books from the library corner, 2) access the Internet and 3) use the message boards. Note that specific conditions apply for services regarding 1) and 3). Please consult the information desk staff for more information.

Information Service

I would like to place leaflets at Rainbow Plaza: Rainbow Plaza is a public facility operated by the Fukuoka International Association, an auxiliary organization of Fukuoka City. Therefore, in principle, it does not accept any leaflets pertaining to commercial, political or religious information. If the information on the leaflet promotes international exchange activities or helps foreign nationals, it may be accepted on a case by case basis even it is profit-oriented activities, such as language schools or homestay programs. Please consult Rainbow Plaza for more information.
I would like to study Japanese/foreign languages.: Various language schools’ information including Japanese and English conversation classes can be found at the leaflet corner inside Rainbow Plaza. If you wish to enroll in a private class, you may seek a language teacher through the message board (membership registration required).
I would like to post an ad on English Rainbow Newsletter.: If your ad is deemed appropriate with the Association’s advertisement conditions, it will be posted with the following requirements:
Fee: 20,000yen per ad (length 6.6cm, width 6.3cm, black & white)/ month
Submission deadline: By the 5th of the previous month you wish to post your ad (issued on the first of every month).
File format: ESP (Adobe Illustrator), picture files such as JPEG or GIF.
I would like to cross-link Fukuoka International Association's website.: While Fukuoka International Association’s website does not contain a link page, you are free to link with our site.

I would like to post information on E-mail magazine.: Only the information pertaining to international exchange and cooperation can be posted on E-mail magazine.

Does Rainbow Plaza offer any translation service?: Rainbow Plaza does not provide any translation service, but you can refer to a list of translation companies available at the information desk. You may also use the message board service to seek a translator (note: registration is required to use the message board).

Volunteer Opportunities

I would like to homestay (find a homestay host family).: 　I would like to homestay (find a homestay host family).
Foreign nationals who are interested in homestaying with a Japanese family are introduced to host families under certain conditions. You must have a guarantor (an individual or organization) in Japan, and must apply in a written document two weeks prior to your desired date of homestay, or one month prior to the date in case of multiple applicants.
Once the application is approved, you will be introduced to a host family with its prior consent.

How do I become a homestay host family?: If you are interested in having a foreign national for a homestay, you will be registered as a host family under specific conditions. The conditions are that your family members must all agree and favorably accept a foreign national to their home and that they bear his/her meal, accommodation and transportation expenses (excl. personal expenses) during the homestay period.

I would like to seek a volunteer work where I can utilize my language skills.: I would like seek a volunteer opportunity where I can utilize my language skills.
We register skilled language volunteers on an as needed basis. Please apply with the prescribed application form available at Rainbow Plaza. Once you sign up, we will refer you to administrative agencies or NPOs for interpretation, guide and translation volunteer on their request. (Please note that your registration does not guarantee an immediate volunteer position.) For more information, please inquire Rainbow Plaza at 092-733-2220.
I would like to find a translator.: We dispatch a language volunteer to assist organizations with their non-profit activities that promote international exchange and support foreign nationals (not available to individuals) on their request. Please submit your request in a written document two weeks prior to your desired date (or a month prior, if more than one volunteer). Note that an interpretation service for rare languages or for subjects which require a high degree of professionalism may not be available. Recycling

I would like to offer used furniture to a foreign student.: Rainbow Plaza cooperates with Fukuoka Environment Foundation to provide foreign students with used furniture which were collected free from Fukuoka City residents through the Recycle Telephone Fukuoka Service (Tel: 092-882-3190). We cannot promise you that the recipient will always be foreign students. You can inquire the specific rules by contacting the above number. You can also utilize our message board service (registration required) to post information on giveaway items as well.

Employment

I would like to work for Fukuoka International Association.: Fukuoka International Association is an auxiliary organization of Fukuoka City, and about half of the staffs are dispatched city workers while the rest are regular employees (full-time) and part-time contractors (approx. 30 work hours). Recruitment is open for the latter two positions and they will only be available when the current staff retire or end their contracts. In such cases, it will be announced on our website, E-mail magazine, and Fukuoka Shisei Dayori. All candidates should possess a competent level of foreign language ability or related experiences to qualify.
